“We are thrilled beyond words!” These were the words of the Raka Wines team following the Top 100 SA wines announcement, where Raka secured three spots under the Tops 100 SA wines for the Raka Pinotage, Raka Quinary and Raka Biography Shiraz.
“We have received even more fantastic news,” said Jorika Visser for Raka wines, “Raka Biography Shiraz took an additional three esteemed awards home – Red Wine of the Year Award: A testament to its exceptional quality; the Grand Cru, Best in Class Awards and the Wine Consistency Award for its impressive consistent Top 100 placements over the past 15 years. This achievement is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication. Our shiraz journey began in 1999 with our first vineyards and maiden vintage in 2002. Since then, we have expanded our plantings, now cultivating 11 ha of shiraz, the latest planting in 2022. Each block adds its unique character to our Biography Shiraz. Every vintage adds a new chapter to the Raka legacy.”
She said the story behind the vineyard’s Biography Shiraz is patriarch Piet Dreyer’s 36-year commercial squid-fishing career giving way to a new passion, winemaking. His transition from fisherman to wine producer inspired the creation of Biography Shiraz, a true story of family and tradition. “We are thrilled and grateful for this recognition,” said Visser. “Cheers to many more milestones to come.”
