Struggling households can apply for free basic services and indigent support at any time of the year.
The Municipal Manager of Overstrand Municipality, Dean O’Neill, explained: “Where applications have been approved, qualifying households must verify their indigent status at least once per year to confirm that they still meet the policy’s requirements for free basic services (including free electricity units).
“In the absence of proof of a household’s indigent status, the subsidy will be cancelled with immediate effect.”
To determine if you qualify as an indigent for a subsidy on water, sewerage, electricity and waste on your municipal account, visit your nearest municipal rates hall or download the Indigent Policy via the municipal website on overstrand.gov.za click on Documents and go to Policies.
