Writer of many religious articles, head of SABC religious broadcasts and well-known resident of Hermanus Rev Sandy Gilfillan reached a milestone 100 years of age on 30 May. He celebrated this special event at the Windsor Hotel in Hermanus with wife Magriet and a few family members, before a high tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.
Gilfillan moved to Hermanus with late wife Mary in 1991, when he took on the role of minister and pastor at the Hermanus United church, where he served until 1996, and continued to contribute to the Overberg by pastoring the United church in Stanford until 2007, when Mary’s ill health forced him to retire reluctantly. Although no longer residing in Hermanus he still visits often, as Magriet (whom he married in 2011) is in care at the elderly facility Sofca. Sandy is in good health and of sound mind, as evidenced by buying a new computer and smartphone at age 99, and investing in hearing aids. One can contact him through his youngest daughter, Eleanor, at craigheadeleanor@gmail.com
