Theewaterskloof Municipality is offering a reward of up to R5 000 for reliable information that will lead to the successful prosecution of those who have been targeting and damaging municipal and other state-owned electrical infrastructure.
This follows a recent spike in vandalism and theft across various towns in the Theewaterskloof municipal district, especially in Villiersdorp.
TWK Executive Mayor Tienie Zimmermann reported that Villiersdorp had been struck by vandals and thieves almost weekly since July. “During this period more than 20 posts, a generator and more than 10 m of cabling have been damaged or stolen, amounting to close to R2 million worth of damages caused by these incidents.
“Both municipal and Eskom infrastructure are being targeted and, as a community, we need to stand together and stand up against the ongoing vandalism and theft of public infrastructure.
“The municipality can no longer win this battle alone, we need the community to stand with us against vandalism and theft.”
Zimmerman thanked municipal officials, Law Enforcement officers, the South African Police Service, all local neighbourhood watches and other partnering authorities who have worked hard to assist and follow-up on leads surrounding these unlawful acts.
Zimmerman went on to emphasise that Theewaterskloof Municipality is offering a reward of up to R5 000 for any positive and reliable information regarding these incidents that will assist in the on-going investigations and lead to arrests. To report incidents contact 080 021 4730.
