A robbery took place at the Grabouw Post Office on Thursday
22 October. Lt Col Barend Le Roux of the Grabouw Police confirms that the
suspect entered the Post Office with an fire arm and instructed the personnel
to lay down on the ground and demanded money.

Johan Kruger spokesperson for the South African Post Office
says the robber held the
teller at gunpoint and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
“Being a crime scene, the office was closed until police had completed their
investigation.  The staff have received trauma counselling and the office
is operational again.”

The Grabouw Community Police Forum has since requested that
people refrain from sharing photos and videos about an alleged arrest in
connection with the robbery. In a Facebook post, the Grabouw CPF said the
vehicle in photos and videos was not involved in the robbery.  The post explains
that the family of the wrongfully arrested person are traumatised as a result.

Le Roux says that according to
the officer on the scene, a vehicle was pointed out on the scene as one of the
vehicles involved in the robbery. “There were two people inside of  the
vehicle and the officer reacted on this information. He asked the two people to
get out of the vehicle and to lay down on the ground. After interrogation on
the scene it was discovered that the two people had nothing to do with the
robbery.”

The police confirm that no injuries were sustained during
the robbery and no suspects arrested.
