Caledon police urge the community not to spread rumours that could lead to unnecessary panic.
This comes after rumours were spread on social media about child smugglers allegedly offering drug addicts up to R2 000 to kidnap children from school.
Caledon Police spokesperson Sergeant Tembi Gweyi confirmed no incidents relating to the messages have been reported.
“There is no concrete evidence or information regarding these allegations,” he said.
“We want to urge the public not to spread rumours that will cause unnecessary panic.”
He urged parents to always ensure their children’s safety.
“Minimise the risk of abduction and kidnapping by always ensuring that your child has reliable transport or a trustworthy person to fetch them from school.
“Also ensure that you have a reliable person to look after your child after school,” he advised.
