Defending Bodyboarding World Champion Tristan Roberts from Onrus still heads the 2022 IBC World Tour Rankings with 10 215 points after ending in joint third position with Alan Munoz at the Walker Bay Pro 2022 event.
Jeff Hubbard from Hawaii won the Men’s Division and Iain Campbell, another South African, took second place at the first ever Walker Bay Pro 2022 event, which forms part of the IBC Bodyboarding World Tour.
Isabela Sousa from Brazil, who heads the women’s rankings, rode the waves of success to claim the Bodyboarding Women’s World Champion title as well as the Walker Bay Pro Title. This was the first time ever that the women’s world title was crowned on African soil.
South African bodyboarder Pamela Bowren ended in second place in the Walker Pro. In the Junior Division Hugo Naude and Brayden Hewitt battled it out in the final. Hugo beat Brayden and was crowned the Junior Champion of the Walker Bay Pro.
The Walker Bay Pro 2022 was the first-ever IBC Bodyboarding World Tour event to be held in South Africa. The event was scheduled from 19-28 August in Onrus, Hermanus, with a few lazy days in between.
More than 100 international pro bodyboarders from countries such as South Africa, Brazil, Chile and the USA competed in this event.
Bodyboarding enthusiasts not only had the opportunity to see their heroes riding the waves, but also got the chance to meet some of the professional athletes and get precious tips from them during a special clinic for under 18s on Friday 26 August.
Next on the IBC Bodyboarding World Tour is Sintra Pro 2022, to be held in Sintra, Portugal from 5 to 11 September.
