A 23-year-old man appeared in court on a charge of the possession of an unlicensed firearm last week. Capt Fadila September, spokesperson for the Hermanus police, reports that police officials were on patrol in Zwelihle at 02:45 on Tuesday 15 March when they noticed a man who acted suspiciously. “As the police vehicle stopped the man ran away,” she said. “The officials ran after the man and managed to apprehend him. When they searched the suspect they found a brown pistol, a magazine and five 9 mm rounds in his possession.” September confirmed the firearm had been reported stolen in Hermanus recently. Pictured are Sgt Joseph Maginya (Overberg K9 Unit), Sgt Mzoxolo Mjonose, Const Yondela Dleke, Const Zwelethu Kula and Sgt Rainier Petersen with the recovered firearm.
