A tip-off from members of the public led police to a large consignment of tyres believed to have been stolen during the hijacking of a truck in Cape Town. Sergeant Tembi Gweyi, spokesperson for the Caledon police, reported that officers of the Overberg Highway Patrol received information about suspected stolen tyres stored in Bot River. “The information was followed up and the tyres were found at the premises of Jonathan Goodwin, also known as Gummies,” he said. “Further investigation revealed the tyres were linked to a truck hijacking that was reported to Nyanga Police. A 32-year-old foreign national from Burundi was arrested and appeared in Caledon Magistrates’ Court. The case is under investigation by detectives of the Western Cape provincial office.”
