Mozart’s Restaurant and Deli in Bredasdorp has perfected the consummate recipe that has kept patrons coming back for 30 years – delicious, filling food beautifully presented, a relaxed ambience perfect for lingering over a cuppa, a cocktail or freshly brewed coffee, a variety of tasty delicacies and friendly, efficient staff.
Mozart’s has become an institution in Bredasdorp. Its welcoming and colourful façade easily stands out from other businesses in the town’s main road.
Bright red tables and chairs above the entryway invite passersby to come and take a seat at a table where they can expect to be served anything from tea or coffee and a light snack to a nutritious smoothie, a filling meal or funky cocktails.
The successful business was started all those years ago by a group of women before Joel and Lalie Engelbrecht bought Mozart’s. In June 2021, Wesley Petterson, an accomplished pastry chef, became the latest owner.
“I changed a lot of things, but I wanted to retain the ambience,” he explained.
Petterson separated the restaurant and kitchen areas, and added items such as chilli poppers, rib and steak to the menu. Since he took over, patrons can now also enjoy healthy smoothies and cocktails at their favourite restaurant. It is also open at night.
Mozart’s offers High Tea, with 11 different kinds of tea, finger sandwiches and delectable sweet and savoury treats. It is also a popular venue for small intimate birthday parties, bridal showers and other functions. Patrons can choose either to host their functions on the long stoep that can be closed off to the elements or left open to a cooling breeze or inside the restaurant with its cosy seating.
Mozart’s also has a deli that sells a wide range of preserves and jams, milk tarts, cheese, cold meats and dips, tasty lewerkoekies, quiches and other tasty treats. You can also browse around and buy beautiful antiques, colourful paintings by local artists, tasty home-baked biscuits and bread, lovely teapots and books by local writers.
