The first IBC Bodyboarding World Tour event in Africa is going to take place in Hermanus from 19-28 August and the local and previous winner of the Hermanus Times SuperSport Let’s Play Sportstar, Tristan Roberts, is going to participate in this prestigious event.

After four events the local star is ranked first with 1 215 points (updated 16 June). “With my results so far I am leading the tour and I couldn’t be any happier,” Roberts said. “It has been a great start to my competitive season, and the year is going to be rather exciting as I chase my second men’s world title.”

In May, he told Hermanus Times: “The IBC World Tour has started and we have competed at two stops of the tour already. One was held in Arica, Chile, where I got second and the second event was held in Iquique, Chile, where I got first. We are leaving to compete in the third stop, which will be held in Antofagasta, Chile, and then I will be heading to Brazil to compete in the fourth stop.”

After Brazil they competed in Hawaii, and are now taking part in a tournament in the Maldives before the event in Hermanus.

About the local event Roberts says: “I am so happy the organisers chose Hermanus as the location. We will be competing in Onrus, which will be amazing. I just want to thank the Hermanus community from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words expressed over the last few weeks. Your support means a lot to a small-town kid chasing big dreams.”
