Powerhouse Gym, Coastal Timber Mouldings, Buco and Pro Active Fitness Gym each had four team members competing in the Truck Pull, Farmer’s Walk and Sled Pull events.
The Truck Pull entailed pulling a 2-ton truck with four men and the truck driver in the fastest time. Apologies Mncube of Pro Active Gym won with a time of 18 seconds. Nic Lotter was on his heels in a time of 19 seconds.
Emmanuel Jambo won the Farmer’s Walk. In this event competed to see who could carry a special platform with 150 kg weights the furthest. Johan Kruger of Powerhouse Gym who organised the Strongman Competition, says Jambo managed to carry the platform for 135m.
“This is quite a feat and you would have to search far to find someone who can equal it. This individual achievement was probably the highlight of the day,” Kruger added.
Christopher of Coastal Timber Mouldings ended in second place with a distance of 105 m.
Nic Lotter won the Sled Pull where participants had to pull a sled weighed down with 200 kg of cement bags.
“Nic did this in 16 seconds. This was another fantastic achievement,” said Kruger who ended second with a time of 23 seconds.
The winners of the different categories each won a cordless drill sponsored by Buco.
Mr Clown Hermanus was also at the event to add some extra colour and excitement to the day by entertaining the crowd with his juggling act and colourful balloons.
Sxolies Aerobics Club showed off their moves while the young soccer players of Whale Coast City soccer club demonstrated their skills with a ball. Yvette Ingles of Hermanus Muay Thai and Fitness in Sandbaai gave the kids a lesson in self-defence.
Various businesses involved in the Gateway Moves project had stalls where they exhibited and sold their products. Among these businesses was Jolly Rooster Fynbos Distillery offering people a taste of their unique fynbos gins, rum, tequila and liqueurs.
Chop Chop, a social development project of Coastal Timber Mouldings, sold high quality fire starters that are made by unemployed members of the community.
Jambo, Mncube and Lotter will compete against each other and other competitors in the Strongman Competition this Sunday at 11:00 at the amphitheatre near the Old Harbour.
