Maria Pieterse, founder of the Mount Pleasant Saints soup kitchen, needs the community’s help to host a Christmas party for vulnerable children.

The Mount Pleasant Saints Soup Kitchen has provided food and care packs for the needy of the area and its surrounds throughout the year.

With the festive season around the corner, the organisation plans on hosting a Christmas party and donating a gift box to underprivileged children in the community.

Maria Pieterse, founder of the NPO, explains it tries to make a positive difference in the lives of approximately 200 adults and children every day.

“Every day for them is a challenge, but through the grace of God we have been able to carry on helping the poor and the needy,” she said.

“We are very grateful for the support of everyone who makes this possible.

“Now we urgently need to raise funds to host a Christmas party and give gifts to the children as well as providing daily breakfasts and care packages for the elderly in the community.

“I have a list of names of children who are not going to get a present this year because their parents are also in the lines for food every day.”

People can assist Pieterse by donating items such as boerewors, rolls, cooldrinks, sweets and fruit for the party or by donating a shoebox filled with small gifts for the children.

“People can even donate as little as R50 to help us put a smile on the children’s faces. No contribution is too small,” she said.

Anyone who is able to assist with this campaign, can contact Pieterse on 073 465 8961 or Sandy Nell at 082 825 1441.
