Hermanus police has thanked the public and Overstrand Law Enforcement officers for assisting them in recovering a stolen cellphone and arresting the alleged thief last week. Capt Fadila September, spokesperson for the Hermanus police, says the quick response of everyone involved after the theft was reported, saved the day. “A woman was walking past Buco when a man grabbed her phone,” she said. “An employee of the business chased after the suspect and the police were called. Sergeant Catheline Manuel and other officers responded to where the suspect was seen running up Mountain View Drive.” Law Enforcement officials assisted by walking up the mountainside to apprehend the suspect who then tried to run back down the mountain. “Members of the Mount Pleasant community helped to apprehend the 18-year old suspect,” said September. “The suspect is charged with the possession of stolen property. “Thank you to the community who assisted us. It is appreciated.”
