Hermanus police were seeking two suspects who broke into a house in Sandbaai, assaulted the owner and escaped with a cellphone. Police spokesperson Capt Fadila September reported the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday 18 November at a house in Duiker Crescent, Sandbaai.

The complainant reportedly heard someone trying to open the sliding door at approximately 03:30. When he went to investigate he noticed two unknown men trying to force the door open.

The intruders reportedly went ahead in their efforts to gain entry even after they noticed the complainant’s presence.

“One of the suspects kicked the sliding door and the glass broke,” September reported. “The suspects entered the house, and one suspect started assaulting the complainant by punching him and kicking him in the ribs. The complainant screamed for help. The other suspect went into the lounge and took the complainant’s Samsung cellphone. Both suspects fled on foot.”

September confirmed the complainant did not sustain any serious injuries, and no arrests in connection with the house robbery had yet been made.

She warned the public not to buy any stolen goods, for this is also a crime.
