Two cricket teams from the Overberg have been chosen to compete in a new community club-based T20 competition called the Goldrush Boland Super League (BSL) that was launched last week.

Altogether 16 teams from the Boland area – including 10 Premier League clubs, four promotion league clubs (to be determined at the end of the current 2023-’24 season) and two wild-card teams – will compete in four pools in the Goldrush BSL, which starts this Saturday (10 March). The top two teams in every pool will advance to the quarter-finals, culminating in a day/night final at Boland Park on Saturday 23 March.

Competition will be stiff with R45 000 in prize money up for grabs for the winner of the tournament, R20 000 for second placed team, R10 000 for third place and R5 000 for fourth place.

The teams from Caledon and Hermanus will compete in Pool D along with Worcester United and Robertson. These teams will face off at Worcester United Cricket Club’s grounds in Worcester on Saturday 16 March.

An exciting element of this new competition is the introduction of the pink ball that has been used for day/night test matches, and which will add some colour to the tournament’s early autumn festivities.

James Fortuin, CEO of Cricket Boland, said: “Boland club cricket is excited about the potential of this new competition, and maintains that it will play a vital role in strengthening club cricket in the Boland region. I wish to thank Goldrush for teaming up with us as a brand partner; their partnership is invaluable in realising the goals of this tournament.

“I have no doubt that the Goldrush Boland Super League will be an aspirational tournament for the players, fans and those watching via live streaming, which is another component and value-add to this tournament.”

Dwain Powell, MD of Goldrush Online, added: “Goldrush is proud to put its name behind the Goldrush Boland Super League and is excited to partner with Boland Cricket. We’re invested in developing Boland Cricket as well as the broader community and aim to ensure that the Goldrush BSL spotlights up-and-coming talent, celebrates excellence and is highly enjoyable for everyone involved.

“We urge lovers of cricket and the community to fill the match venues, where there will be great prizes and giveaways up for grabs on each match day.”

The Goldrush BSL’s first round will be streamed live on You Tube, with further details to be furnished on Boland Rocks and Goldrush Online social channels.
