Hawston Cricket Club won all six their T20 matches to be crowned the Overberg champs. After winning six out of six matches Hawston Cricket Club was crowned the 2024-’25 T20 Champions of the First Division in the Overberg.

They sealed their victory on Saturday 15 February during a home game at the Hawston Oval against Kleinmond Cricket Club.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a flying start scoring 100 runs in the first 10 overs. Hawston, however, set the reset button and got their act together and restricted Kleinmond to only 38 runs in the last 10 overs, with Kleinmond eventually scoring 138 runs in their 20 overs.

This was largely due to an inspiring spell of fast bowling from captain, Chadwell Koopman, taking four wickets for 18 runs in his four overs. Philip van Wyngaardt also bowled beautifully with figures of four overs for only 15 runs and taking one wicket.

Hawston went into bat and the platform was laid by an explosive opening pair of Cano Hoonberg (75 runs off 57 balls) and Byron May (21 runs off 18 balls). Hawston reached the target in 16.1 overs and claimed a well-deserved victory.

“Hawston Cricket Club would like to thank everyone for the support on Saturday and the whole season,” said Llyle Tait. “We hope to see many more supporters coming out in the next season as this club is going forward at a rapid pace.”
