The road between Bot River and the R43 had to be closed for nearly two hours on Tuesday 15 March after a bus had gone up in flames near Wildekrans Wine Estate. Jandré Bakker, spokesperson for the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works, confirmed the bus was not transporting any passengers at the time. The driver managed to escape unharmed. “The incident occurred at about 13:45,” he stated. “The road was closed to traffic until the fire was extinguished. A stop-and-go system was put in place until the wreckage was removed. Nobody was injured. The cause of the fire will be investigated.”
