The DA Constituency Head for the Overstrand, Masizole Mnqasel has made an appeal to Hermanus residents to donate food for those in need. 

In a letter to Hermanus Residents, Mnqasela said we cannot forget about the less fortunate in this time. “When our world is turned upside down like this, it is easy to forget about the less fortunate families and the infirm. We cannot afford to have people who go to bed on an empty stomach, especially the children.”

To All Hermanus Residents, 

This is truly a difficult and trying time for the whole of South Africa. We are in uncharted territory and many people may have mixed feelings about the next 21 days and it’s understandable.

This is not an easy moment for most South Africans, but even more so for those whose income and jobs are now at risk. When our world is turned upside down like this, it is easy to forget about the less fortunate families and the infirm. We cannot afford to have people who go to bed on an empty stomach, especially the children. 

I hereby appeal to all residents of Hermanus to donate non-perishables to our most vulnerable families. The following FOOD STORES have agreed to have donation trolleys in their stores as drop points:

Please consider contributing when going shopping at these Food Stores. You can simply drop it in the marked trolleys. The following products are the essential;

FOOD:5kg – Maize Meal2kg – Rice2kg – Samp2kg – BeansCanned Foods (Mix of specifically Tomato & Onion Mix / Braai Relish / Baked Beans / Pilchards)

TOILETRIES:Toilet Paper RollToothpasteBar of SoapPacket of Sanitary TowelsBaby Nappies 

DETERGENTS: Antibacterial Cleaning Products Washing Powder Gloves Hand Wash etc. 

Packaging:Heavy Duty Bags, i.e Black bags. 

Any other non-perishable food product is welcome as long as it is sealed in its original packaging. The distribution of this will be conducted by the Overstrand Municipality’s Disaster Management Unit.

Remember only essential services personnel are on duty during period, therefore the process will be carefully handled to ensure maximum compliance to health and safety protocols at all times.
