The need is great . . . poverty is the order of the day, leading not only to hunger, especially among children and the elderly, but animals are also seriously affected by Covid-19 and the economic state of affairs.
This is one of the reasons Hermanus Times has decided to reach out to people and animals. “We are inundated with stories about women who live with gender-based violence, runaway children, suffering animals and people under relentless financial pressure.
“There are also several non-profit organisations [NPOs] that are under tremendous strain in these difficult times, and as a newspaper that is a part of the community we would really like to do something for people, animals and organisations,” says Mariëtte Strydom, editor of Hermanus Times.
Therefore, the newspaper is inviting its readers and advertisers to become part of the project “We care for the Overberg”. “Through this project this newspaper wishes to plough back into its community which, over the past five years, has really suffered economic hardships,” Strydom said. “We ask for anything, non-perishable products, blankets, sanitary towels, dog food, clothes, school socks, school necessities, and so on. These we will distribute through NPOs and schools that need them.”. Donations can be delivered to 34 Main Road, Hermanus. For more information please call 028 312 3717.
