The war in Ukraine, fires and corruption are the order of the day.
Yet we can be grateful for actions taken to curb certain illegalities in the Overberg.
Poachers were in for a surprise when the SA National Defence Force, instead of to just one area as in the past, was deployed to several spots along the Overstrand coastline. Read more on page 2. Hopefully the action will curb illegal poaching.
The marine resources of the Overberg have been plundered for too long by illegal poachers, and in the process even conscientious residents’ lives have been threatened.
Something also needs to be done about fires in the Overberg. People should be aware it is life threatening to start fires. The fire that has burnt near Stanford since Friday caused much anxiety as flames raged out of control. It has destroyed around 1 600 ha. Read more on page 3.
