The Weekend Warrior Grabouw is a special event for cyclists to test their skills in the beautiful nature of Grabouw. Weekend Warrior Grabouw, grown by Tru-Cape, is a fund-raising initiative for the Hoërskool Grabouw. Monies raised will go towards a new classroom for the Grade 4 learners. This event will take place on 12 and 13 April.
The organisers describe this race as an idyllic ride through Oak Valley vineyards, the apple orchards of Tru-Cape and along the Eikenhoff dam. “New additions to the already famous trails will be unveiled, with challenging but enjoyable features for riders of all skill and ability levels. It’s known for an incredible network of single track. All Weekend Warriors can expect unbelievable vistas and fully stocked waterholes throughout the weekend,” they said.
There are three different routes: the bronze, silver and gold routes. The golden route is for those who want to test their endurance. “The Gold riders will be the first riders off. The event is unseeded so if you are a racing snake please get to the start chute 15 mins before the start to ensure you get a spot near the front,” they said. This route will take you through Two-A-Day and Fruit Ways with a small trip into Oak Valley. Conquer the washed-out climb to Shauns Cut and get ready for the second half and the harder part of Day 1. Riders will climb up to the very top of the famous A – Z Trail before making their way back home via this world-class network.
The second day will take you to the Country Club and up the Red Road, taking on some similar stretches to Day 1 around the Elgin Valley Trails, but this time heading deep into the heart of Oak Valley.
