Athletes of Whalers Athletic Club headed for KwaZulu-Natal to take part in the 95th Comrades Marathon held on 28 August. The 90 km down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban took place in overcast weather that wasn’t too humid. Runners set off from the Pietermaritzburg Town Hall, ran through the Valley of a Thousand Hills and finished at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The Whalers results were as follow: Johann Kotze – 9:37:27, Nyasha Mhindurwa Janhi – 10:03:04, Gareth Griffiths –10:46:57, Mark Rolfe – 10:53:52, Dian Giliomee – 11:26:06 and Elaine Cuffe – 11:45:01.
