Imagine the cathedral-like resonance of classical guitar strings meeting the thunderous heartbeat of flamenco footwork, where centuries-old traditions collide in a spectacular fusion of sound and movement. This is ¡Pulso! – a breathtaking artistic collaboration that promises to ignite the senses and transport audiences on an extraordinary cultural odyssey.
Classical guitarists Nina Fourie-Gouws and Christiaan Carelse join artistic forces with Flamenco dance sensation Ché Adams in ¡Pulso! This visually and auditory captivating production combines the passion, fire and intensity of authentic contemporary Flamenco dance with the rich, complex and sensuous sounds of Classical Guitar. The audience will be transported across three millennia on a journey from majestic cathedrals and pastoral landscapes to the bustling nightclubs and cafés of South America and Spain.
The formidable trio breaks down the boundaries between the melodious, virtuosic, and structured world of classical guitar and the expressive, explosive and highly improvisational nature of flamenco dancing. The programme includes works by Albéniz, Boccherini, Brouwer, de Falla, Domeniconi, Dyens and Granados. This event hosted by OVERSTRAND ARTS/KUNSTE (OAK) will take place on Sunday 19 October in the Civic Auditorium, at 15:30.
Established in 2023, ¡Pulso! featured on kykNET’s Fiësta, nominated for a Woordfees award as best instrumental production and has performed as part of the sold-out productions at the Toyota Woordfees, Baxter theatre, Classics for All Festival in Greyton, and the Erin Hall, Swellendam Music Society and Oude Westhof Concert series, “delivering a high-energy blend of virtuosity, evocative and sensuous lyricism and imaginative programming resulting in a thrilling new way to experience chamber music in the 21st century”.
