Looking for something to do this weekend? Why not head to Grootvlei farm, near Krige, in the Caledon area for the Regional Sheepdog Trials hosted by the Western Province Sheepdog Club on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July. This will be the club’s first trial of the season. Each day is a separate competition and handlers and their dogs from across the Cape Province will be competing in the different class categories to determine the best sheepdog. Despite the recent wet weather the show will go on, as clever dogs directed by their handlers move the wily sheep around a set course. From inexperienced handlers and their young dogs, to seasoned older dogs, each class has different challenges. The event takes place on Grootvlei farm, near Krige, in the Caledon area and the Protea Senior citizens club will once again provide hungry spectators and competitors with delicious food and warming drinks. Take along a chair and a warm jacket and enjoy a day in the beautiful Overberg. You can take along your dog, provided they stay strictly on lead at all times.
