John Seccombe, Samantha O’Keefe and Emul Ross.

The Cape Winemakers’ Guild (CWG) has two new members, namely Emul Ross from Hamilton Russell Vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and John Seccombe from Thorne and Daughters.

Samantha O’Keefe of Lismore will take over as Cape Winemakers’ Guild chair from Gordon Newton Johnson, while JD Pretorius of Warwick steps into the role of Vice Chair.

In the last 12 months the guild has lost Boela Gerber, who left Groot Constantia to take up a position in Virginia, USA, while Carel Nel of Boplaas changed status from member to non-producing member.

According to Ross it is a real honour to have been nominated by his peers and mentors to join the Cape Winemakers’ Guild.

“I hope to continue making a positive contribution to the wine industry with renewed vigour, and greatly look forward to the ongoing learning opportunities the CWG offers.”

He has been the winemaker for Hamilton Russell Vineyards, Ashbourne and Southern Right since 2015 and has helped establish the Hamilton Russell Oregon brand since it was founded in 2018.. The Cape Winemakers Guild was founded in 1982 to improve the quality of South African wine by tasting international benchmarks and sharing knowledge among its members. Now, 42 years later, we have 41 guild members contributing to the guild and sharing knowledge with each other. Learn more about Cape Winemakers Guild here, www.capewinemakersguild.com
