The police have arrested a 34-year-old man in Bonnievale hours after his girlfriend’s body was discovered by one of her neighbours.
Dimpho Skelenge had reportedly moved to Caledon recently to start a new job as an administrative clerk at Caledon Magistrates’ Court on 1 August. Before her new appointment she had worked as a clerk at the Worcester Magistrates’ Court.
A little over a month later the young woman’s life was cut short, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend.
The Caledon police confirmed they were called out to the scene in Uitsig at about 05:50 Wednesday morning after a neighbour had discovered the young woman’s body.
Colonel June Maarman, commander of Caledon Police Station, said it is believed Skelenge was killed between the evening of Tuesday 6 September and early morning hours of Wednesday the 7th.
She said Skelenge’s body was found with multiple stab wounds.
“It is alleged there was an argument between the suspect and the deceased, and that jealousy was possibly the reason,” Maarman stated.
She confirmed Skelenge’s boyfriend, Wiseman Ndara, was arrested a few hours later at his place of work in Bonnievale.
Arthur Lupondwana, Area Court Manager: Somerset West Cluster, said he received an urgent call about 09:40, requesting him to go to Caledon where Skelenge had been murdered.
“I went to the scene and her lifeless body was removed by the police’s forensic unit,” he said.
“I was advised at about mid-morning by the detective that they had arrested the suspect.”
Ndara (34) appeared at Caledon Magistrate’s Court on Friday 9 September on a charge of murder. The case was postponed to Friday 16 September for bail information.
