The Overstrand Whale Boxing Club has done it again, bringing home one silver and six gold medals from the Western Cape Junior and Cadets Boxing Championship in Saldanha on the West Coast.

Promising young boxer Kolunga Ndleleli added to the stash by beating his opponent from the Cape Metropole Boxing Club and bringing home the trophy for the Best Boxer in the u-36 kg Cadet Category. The team represented the Overberg and also brought the trophy for the second best region home.

Coach Mzi Damesi was almost bursting with pride as he reported that of the eight OWBC boxers competing in the event six bagged gold and another bagged silver. The boxers who won gold are Kantliseng Qheya in the Female u-60 kg Cadet division, Oyama Devese, Kolunga Ndleleni, Sihle Mathiso, Sihle Mjongile, Nikilitha Nkothobe and Simanye Mbukushe. Nikilitha Getywa bagged a silver medal.

“More boxers from the Overberg were expected, but only boxers from Overstrand took part. Even though we were few we were named the second best region after the Cape Metropole, a much larger club,” he stated.

Damesi congratulated his boxers on their outstanding achievements, adding it would not have been possible without sponsors, the main sponsor the EMS Foundation. Seventeen club members will head for Philippi, Cape Town on Saturday 24 September for a tournament where they will compete against boxers from the top club in the Western Cape.
